The 2014 World Cup final was held on July 13 at the Maracanã stadium in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was the second World Cup final played at the stadium after the 1950 World Cup between Brazil and Uruguay was won, won by Uruguayans 2-1.

It was played between Germany and Argentina, in a match that repeated decisions from two previous editions of the World Cup (in 1986 with Argentine victory and in 1990 with German victory) and becoming the most repeated final in history. It was also the second time that a team became a finalist with more than double the number of goals scored by the rival in the campaign (the other was in 1990). Overall this was Germany’s eighth final and Argentina’s fifth.

Germany won the title for the fourth time, the first after reunification, after winning the game 1–0 in overtime with a goal from Mario Gotze. It was the first achievement of a European team on the South American continent. In addition, Miroslav Klose became one of 7 players to have won both gold, silver and bronze medals at World Cups.

In addition, the record of Lionel Messi’s bleak look at the World Cup cup minutes after Argentina was defeated by Germany, in the final of the tournament, won the World Press Photo award to photographer Bao Tailiang, of the Chinese newspaper “Chengdu Economic Daily “.
