Are you a fan of the Soccer World Cup? Or should I say, the Football World Cup? If so, this song is for you! The song’s name is ‘To Be Number One’ (Un Estate Italiana or An Italian Summer) by the famous Italian composer Giorgio Moroder. Moroder is considered the king of disco and movie soundtracks. He has composed soundtracks for many blockbuster movies such as Midnight Express, American Gigolo, Superman III, Scarface, The Never Ending Story, and Metropolis (1984). Furthermore, Moroder has created a score of songs for many performers including David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Irene Cara, Janet Jackson, Madleen Kane, Melissa Manchester, Blondie, Japan and France Joli.

When I was a little boy, watching the FIFA World Cup has always been something special. When World Cup 1990 took place in Italy, I was only a five-year-old kid. But I still remember some flashes of videos we saw on our family’s tiny TV back then. Diego Maradona, Jurgen Klinsmann and Roberto Baggio were my heros!

Back to 2021, many soccer teams around the world are competing for a place in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. I wish the best of luck to the Italian soccer teams! Let’s become number one! This video has subtitles. Lastly, I filmed this video using an overhead camera, so please play along with me.
