South American Footbal Federation or Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol is the governing body for organizing football in South America. It is one of Fifa’s 6 continental confederations and is the oldest confederations in world football.
Nations from conmebol has won the world cup 9 times. 5 wins for Brazil, 2 for Argentina, and 2 for Argentina.
Qualifying for the world cup is no easy task for the ten teams in the conmebol zone. where you have 10 teams fighting for 4 automatic places and one playoff spot to face the winner of the Oceania zone.
Teams in conmebol play each other in a round robin format of home and away matches.
With only 3 and a half places available since brazil already qualified and 4 more games left for each team. The race to qualify for Russia 2018 is becoming rather intense.
With Brazil already through and Venezuela and Bolivia practically out we have 7 teams battling it out for the last 3 automatic spots and the playoff spot.
With Columbia, Chile, and Uraguay currently occupying the last 3 automatic spots and Argentina in the playoff spot. Equador, Peru and Paraguay will be hoping to stun their rivals a beat them in the race for Russia 2018.
Argentina is the team everyone is keeping an eye on because of their lackluster performance so far in the qualifiers. With 4 games to play and 3 of those games without Lionel Messi it would be a rather uphill task for their starstudded team.
They have Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela, and Equador left to play and none of those teams will be a clear walk over not even the struggling Venezuela.
I think Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Columbia and Argentina will qualify for the world cup in Russia. Unless Paraguay, Peru or equador gain enough points to displace the aforementioned teams..
Venezuela is the only team from conmebol that has failed to qualify for a fifa world cup despite have a decent roster of players.
