What Brazil were missing at the 1998 FIFA World Cup

1998年フランス大会

Romario had dragged a frankly underwhelming Brazilian side to the 1994 World Cup title, their fourth in their history. It would be his final World Cup as he wasn’t selected ahead of Edmundo and 1994 teammates Bebeto and Ronaldo, the latter being an unused teenager in USA but was Brazil’s new centerpiece at France ’98. Romario was nowhere to be seen, and after not appearing at the 2001 Copa America, Romario never played competitively for Brazil again. Ronaldo went down with a seizure on the morning of the 1998 final but played anyway, in a poor 3-0 defeat to France. Would Romario have stepped in to save Brazil?
